Bio:
David Iba was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, into a musical family. Starting out on the piano and trumpet, in ninth grade he dedicated his time to drums and percussion. He received bachelor’s degrees in both Music Performance and Composition from UCLA. He continued his studies at USC where he received a certificate of advanced studies in Scoring for Motion Picture and Television. His musical career ended practically before it started as he started a family and wanted a firmer career for a family. After a 15 year hiatus to raise four children, he was asked to play in a cover band for a charity battle of the bands.
The love of music and the spark to play again was burning strong, as well as the drive to improve and grow after so many years away. He sought out and was fortunate to study with drum virtuoso, Thomas Lang.
After several years, and a few versions of the band, the band is still playing together around Los Angeles and Hollywood as the ‘80s cover band, The Breakfast Club.
While gigging around Los Angeles and Hollywood, David has been approached to sit in for other drummers in other cover bands, original bands as well as a worship group in the area. His formal training in performance and composition aided in notating charts and learning and memorizing new music on short order.
In the last year and a half, David has been asked to officially join two of the bands for which he was subbing: “FAST TIMES - ‘80s CONCERT EXPERIENCE” and “SWEET CORVETTE”.
David now plays all around California with scheduled trips out of state.
